The people that inhabit the Settings resemble humans but can have anomalies like fangs, horns, head plates, colored eye pupils, claws, and more, even appearing as a variant among their siblings.  The women and some recessive men in most Settings vomit up something called Resins once a month.  They can sell these Resins at the market as they are used as an energy source.

Sometimes, if they have a sexual partner, fertile Resins are vomited up.  Smaller Settings usually have women that produce a smaller amount of fertile Resins and larger Settings have women that can produce much more.  The Resins are nested and fed by their parents and eventually creatures called Limestars that live in the Beacons, come down to retrieve babies out of the Resins.
